Our Mission

The Association for Educator Development (AED) exists to elevate the teaching profession through professional growth, instructional excellence, leadership development, and learning innovation.

We believe that great educators are not born—they are developed through intentional learning, meaningful collaboration, reflective practice, and continuous improvement. Yet while educators are expected to grow throughout their careers, there has been no national professional association dedicated exclusively to supporting that growth across every stage of the educator journey.

AED was created to fill that gap.

Our mission is to provide educators with the professional learning, resources, standards, credentials, and community they need to strengthen their practice, expand their leadership capacity, embrace innovation, and maximize their impact on learners.

Through research-informed learning experiences, competency-based development frameworks, professional recognition, and a thriving community of practitioners, AED supports educators in becoming the most effective versions of themselves.

We are committed to building a profession where continuous growth is valued, excellence is recognized, leadership is cultivated, and every educator has access to opportunities that advance both their careers and their impact.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every educator has access to a professional home dedicated to their growth, development, and success.

AED aspires to become the leading professional association for educator development—recognized nationally as the trusted authority for professional learning, instructional excellence, leadership development, learning innovation, and career advancement.

We believe that stronger educators create stronger schools, stronger communities, and better outcomes for learners.

Our vision is to establish a profession-wide ecosystem that supports educators throughout their careers through standards, competency frameworks, certifications, research, professional learning opportunities, communities of practice, conferences, and thought leadership.

Just as other professions rely on professional associations to advance practice, establish standards, and foster lifelong growth, we believe educators deserve an organization focused exclusively on helping them learn, lead, innovate, and thrive.

By bringing together educators, instructional leaders, researchers, innovators, and lifelong learners, AED seeks to shape the future of educator development and elevate the profession for generations to come.

Our Story

AED was founded on a simple but powerful belief: educators deserve a professional association dedicated exclusively to their growth.

Across the country, educators invest countless hours refining their craft, leading change, supporting learners, and navigating an increasingly complex educational landscape. They pursue professional learning, seek mentorship, develop leadership skills, explore new technologies, and continuously adapt to meet the needs of their students and communities.

Yet despite the central role professional growth plays in educational success, there has been no singular professional home focused entirely on educator development.

Many organizations serve important roles within education. Some focus on subject areas. Others focus on administration, policy, technology, research, or advocacy. While these organizations contribute significantly to the profession, a gap remained—an organization dedicated to the ongoing development of educators themselves.

AED was created to address that need.

The association was founded to champion the idea that educator development is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey. Professional growth should be intentional, supported, recognized, and accessible throughout every stage of an educator's career.

From classroom teachers and instructional coaches to school leaders and district administrators, educators need opportunities to strengthen instructional practice, develop leadership capabilities, embrace innovation, and connect with peers who share a commitment to excellence.

AED is building that professional home.

Today, we are laying the foundation for a national community dedicated to advancing educator growth and elevating the teaching profession. Together with our founding members, partners, and supporters, we are creating an organization that will provide meaningful professional learning, trusted resources, recognized credentials, collaborative networks, and opportunities for educators to grow, lead, and make an even greater impact.

This is only the beginning.

The future of educator development will be shaped by educators themselves—and we invite you to help build it with us.
